How to file a Cybercrime complaint in India?
If you ever become a victim of cyber fraud in India, you can report cybercrime in India at your nearest cyber cell.
Cybercrime comes under global jurisdiction, so you can file a cyber crime complaint with any cyber cell set up in India, regardless of where the crime took place and where you live.
If there is no cyber cell in your area then you can file a cyber crime complaint with the local police station in your area.
Section 154 of the Code of Criminal Procedure makes it mandatory for every police officer to file a complaint of an offense, regardless of the jurisdiction in which the offense is committed.

How to report cybercrime in India Online?
You can Report a cybercrime in India online at National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal Established by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, to make it easy for people to report cybercrime.
You can also call the National cybercrime helpline number 1930 to report cybercrime in India.
The portal is an initiative of the Government of India to make it easier for victims to report cybercrimes online.
You can register all types of cybercrime complaints on the portal and also track your complaint process.
You can also file cybercrimes involving women and children anonymously and/or by disclosing your identity to be able to track the status of your complaint.
You can also withdraw cyber crime complaints from the portal itself.

Report cybercrime Anonymously without revealing your identity
Click on the first link from the menu bar on the homepage of the portal.
If you wish to report anonymously without disclosing your identity, select the Report anonymously option under Crimes related to women and children.
This will take you to the following screen,
You can report four categories of offenses under Offenses related to women and children.
- Online Child Pornography (CP), Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).
- Rape/Gang Rape (CP/RGR) Sexually explicit content.
- Publishing or Transmitting Sexually Obscene material in electronic form.
- Publishing or transmitting of material containing sexually explicit acts in electronic form.
Select the category to which you want to report the crime related and proceed to provide more details about the crime.
To report other cybercrimes
To report other cyber crimes go to Report other cybercrimes from the menu bar
You will be asked to log in to the portal with your contact information.
If you do not have login credentials, click on New User and register yourself on the portal.
To register yourself on Cyber Crime Reporting Portal you have to provide
- The state you live in
- Phone Number
After you have provided these you will be redirected to the screen below to complete your registration.
Provide the basic information asked and click on save and continue.
You will be directed to the next screen where you can report the cybercrime.

You can also check the status of your complaint through the complaint ID.
Provide the crime details and the location of the incident to proceed.
How to report cybercrime in India Offline?
To report cybercrime, locate your nearest cybercrime cell from your location.
Cybercrime comes under global jurisdiction, so you can file a Cybercrime complaint with any cyber cell set up in India, regardless of where the crime took place and where you live.
You can report to any cyber cell in India regardless of your location.
If you cannot reach any of the above cyber cells in India, you can file a complaint with your local police station regarding the cybercrime you have been a victim of.
If you do not have access to any cyber cell in India, you can file an FIR at the local police station.
If your complaint is not accepted there, you can approach the Commissioner or the Judicial Magistrate of the city.
